WE'RE ON A MISSION TO SAY THANKS AND GIVE BACK.
The Big Event at McNeese State University is a student-led day of service dedicated to giving back to the Southwest Louisiana community. Inspired by the original Big Event founded at Texas A&M University in 1982, this initiative was brought to McNeese to strengthen the connection between the university and the community it serves. Each spring, students, faculty, and staff come together for one day to complete service projects and show appreciation through action.

At McNeese, The Big Event operates as a student organization, led by a team of student directors and volunteers committed to building a strong and lasting tradition on campus. From its early stages, the focus has been on organizing meaningful service opportunities, growing volunteer involvement, and forming partnerships throughout the community. Projects typically include yard work, exterior home maintenance, and general cleanup for local residents and organizations.

As The Big Event continues to grow, so does its impact across Southwest Louisiana. Volunteers serve at job sites throughout the region, working together to make a visible difference in a single day. While the event continues to expand each year, its purpose remains the same: bringing the McNeese community together through service and expressing a genuine “thank you” to those who support it.
