Why Request a Job?

Who We Serve

We serve residents, local community members, churches, and nonprofit organizations throughout South West Louisiana, regardless of socioeconomic status. Our goal is to support those who can benefit from a helping hand and strengthen the connection between McNeese State University students and the community we call home.

The Work We Do

On The Big Event day, groups of student volunteers are assigned to local homes and sites for a few hours of service. Before the event, team leads and staff assistants coordinate with each requestor to understand the needed tasks, confirm expectations, and determine any tools or materials required. This ensures we are fully prepared and aligned on what can be completed safely and effectively.

Common requests include (but are not limited to): raking leaves, weeding, planting flowers, mulching, trimming hedges and small trees, light yard cleanup, gutter cleaning, painting (interior and exterior), minor scraping or prep work, dusting, sweeping and mopping, window washing, and general home or yard cleanup. If you are unsure whether a task qualifies, please contact the organizing team for clarification.

We are committed to respecting all health and safety guidelines required by the city, state, or individual requestors. If accommodations such as masks or other precautions are requested, volunteers will comply accordingly.

Why We Do What We Do

Each year, McNeese State University students dedicate their time to serve the surrounding community as a way of expressing gratitude and building lasting connections. The Big Event is not defined by the number of tasks completed or volunteers involved, but by the relationships formed between students and community members and the shared sense of unity it creates throughout South West Louisiana
